Halloween is a fun holiday for kids (and adults) but it doesn’t have to be just about the Trick or Treating. Even before I had kids, I always enjoyed decorating the house with pumpkins, bats, spiders and lots of fake webs. Once November arrives, I pile the pumpkins at the end of the driveway in a cute display that can stick around through Thanksgiving. I always feel like I get my monies worth.

Beyond the decorations, it’s also fun to cook up a SPOOKY meal to serve on Halloween. We always seem to have friends coming and going so I like a table spread with finger foods and lots of choices. Some of our favorites include mini pizzas decorated to look like an eyeball, banana halves made to look like ghosts by adding chocolate chip eyes and a mouth, chocolate pudding topped with cookie crumbs to look like dirt with a tiny hand drawn grave stone.

As we play games, watch scary movies and wait for the Trick or Treaters we munch on the food and have a great time. Lime green punch served in chemistry beakers also adds a nice touch.

This year we will be taking out little guy trick or treating for the first time. Before we head out for the evening I want to make sure that everyone is well fed. Even if they are out collecting candy, cranky, hungry kids are no fun to deal with. And, when it comes to kids, you can’t go wrong with hotdogs!

These Slightly Creepy Halloweenie Spider Dogs are a lot of fun and are sure to be a hit at the dinner table this Halloween.
